Whether you're just starting out or have already been published, we want to hear from you!

Since 2018, we've published 400+ writers across the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond. We publish year-round across our online journal midnightandindigo.com, tri-annual print and digital issues, and dedicated speculative fiction issues. We pay for all accepted work and are 100% Black woman-owned.

New submissions will open on August 15th. 

For this round, we're reading submissions in two windows:

  • Window 1: August 15 – August 30Window 2: September 1 – September 15

Each window closes at 11:59pm ET on the closing date, or when we reach reading capacity, whichever comes first.

  • The next deadline is August 15th for short stories and personal essays
  • The next deadline is August 15th for Black speculative fiction
  • Calls for Submissions for Short Stories and Personal Essays are held 4x per year
  • Special editions: Speculative/Horror issue and Anthology 
  • We do NOT accept poetry or manuscripts.
